A worked example, minute by minute
Suppose you enter 2 hours 45 minutes under A and 1 hour 40 minutes under B, with the operation set to add. The script first normalizes both entries to minutes: A is 2 x 60 + 45 = 165 minutes, and B is 1 x 60 + 40 = 100 minutes. Because the operation is add, total = 165 + 100 = 265. The absolute value is 265, so h = floor(265 / 60) = 4 (that is 240 minutes) and m = 265 - 240 = 25, giving the first output line: Result: 4 hr 25 min.
The same total drives the other two lines. Decimal hours = 265 / 60 = 4.4166..., which the en-US formatter rounds to at most two places, so it prints 4.42. Total minutes prints as 265. Check it in reverse: 4 hr 25 min is 4.4166... hours, and 4.42 x 60 = 265.2, so the decimal line is slightly rounded while the minutes line is exact. If you subtract the same pair instead, total = 165 - 100 = 65, and every line flips to 1 hr 5 min, 1.08 decimal hours, 65 minutes.
Boundary behavior worth knowing
Three edges matter. First, negative totals: the script only applies the minus sign to the display, never to the arithmetic that follows. A result of -65 total minutes prints as Result: -1 hr 5 min but also as Decimal hours: -1.08 and Total minutes: -65, so the minus appears on each line where it should. Second, minutes over 59: there is no input cap, so entering 90 minutes under A normalizes cleanly to 1.5 hours inside the sum rather than being rejected or miscounted. Third, the operation field: anything other than exactly 'add', including an empty value, silently falls through to subtraction. If a user expects add and the dropdown did not load, they get 2 hr 45 min - 1 hr 40 min = 1 hr 5 min instead of 4 hr 25 min, a 3 hr 20 min error with no warning.
Precision note: the minutes display uses Math.round on the remainder, and decimal hours is rounded to two places. Inputs like 2 hours 33 minutes against 1 hour 40 minutes give 53 total minutes (0 hr 53 min, 0.88 decimal hours), which is exact, but long chains of additions accumulate their display rounding if you re-enter rounded decimals by hand. Re-derive from total minutes when precision matters.
