Make BoringToolsKit your preferred source

Google lets you tell it which sites you trust most. When you choose BoringToolsKit as a preferred source, your search results and AI answers can show a “preferred” badge and feature our content more prominently.

How it works

Google’s preferred-source feature is a per-user, per-browser setting for signed-in accounts. It tells Google “I trust this site,” and Google can then highlight that site in Top Stories, AI Mode, and AI Overviews when it is relevant to your query. It is the user’s choice — we cannot set it for you, and we never will.

Google’s official documentation for preferred sources is the authoritative reference for how the feature behaves and where the setting lives.

What it means for you

  • More of what you already trust. If you use BoringToolsKit’s calculators regularly, selecting us as a preferred source makes it more likely Google surfaces our pages in your results and AI answers.
  • Better AI citations. In AI Mode and AI Overviews, a preferred source can receive a “preferred” badge — a visible signal that the answer drew on a site you chose.
  • It is optional and reversible. The setting is per-account, and you can change or remove it at any time in your Google Search settings.

What it does not mean

Selecting a preferred source is not an endorsement of every page, and it does not change the underlying quality of the tools — it changes how Google prioritizes a site you already trust. We keep the same standard for every page: transparent formulas, editable inputs, cited sources, and results that stay in your browser.
