Method & verification

How This Tool Works

Calculation Method

Counts down from 20 minutes using browser timing APIs, then stops and plays a sound. The Minutes and Seconds fields set the duration directly, and the preset buttons jump to 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 60 minutes. The sound alert is on by default and keeping the screen awake is off by default; the countdown follows the device clock, so system sleep or tab throttling can stretch the elapsed time.

Site methodology

BoringToolsKit methodology and verification standard

No unrelated authority link is added merely to make this page look sourced. Tool-specific external sources are shown only when they directly support the method, rate, or rule.

Assumptions to Verify

Inputs are treated exactly as entered.
Verify important decisions with current authoritative information.

Privacy: The calculation runs in this browser. Shared links contain the page address only, not your inputs or results.

Set a 20-minute timer

This page opens with a 20-minute countdown already loaded, and it starts automatically — no click needed. A 20-minutes interval is common for focus sessions, quick breaks, cooking steps, and short workouts. When the countdown finishes, a gentle chime plays and the page switches to a completion state so you can start another interval.

What you can do here

Pause and resume any time with the primary control — the remaining time is kept.

Reset to start a fresh 20-minute countdown.

Adjust the duration if you need a slightly longer or shorter interval.

Add scenery from the Scenery panel for a calmer on-screen backdrop — it stays optional and local to this device.

Focus Mode dims the interface so the remaining time is the only thing that stands out.

How the timer works

The countdown is computed in your browser with a deadline-based engine, so pausing and resuming keeps the remaining time accurate. The page never sends your timer data anywhere. Like all BoringToolsKit tools, there is no account and no tracking.
