Scales are interval patterns
A scale is a set of notes ordered by pitch. The major scale follows the interval pattern whole-whole-half-whole-whole-whole-half (W-W-H-W-W-W-H). The natural minor shifts the third, sixth, and seventh down, giving the familiar minor sound. Pentatonic scales drop two notes for a simpler five-note feel.
Blues and modes add color
The blues scale adds a flattened fifth (the 'blue note') for a signature tension. Modes like Dorian and Mixolydian reuse the notes of a major scale but start on a different degree, producing a different character. The finder shows each scale's exact notes and intervals from any root.
Scales guide melody and harmony
