What does this calculator estimate?
A crypto profit calculator computes gain or loss on a trade. Enter buy and sell prices, the amount, and fees to see profit and ROI.
- Profit = (sell − buy) × amount − fees
- Works for any coin or token
- Fees and slippage cut real returns
How crypto trades are measured
Like any asset, crypto profit is the price difference times the amount held, minus trading fees. ROI lets you compare trades of different sizes. The calculator works for any coin — enter its buy and sell prices.
Limitations to watch for
The tool uses simple trade math: it doesn't model staking rewards, airdrops, or taxes. Crypto tax treatment varies by jurisdiction and holding period. Volatility means the price at the moment of sale matters — the actual fill can differ from your quoted price.
How to use it in practice
Log real fills, not ideal prices: use the actual executed buy and sell prices, including exchange fees. Track ROI against a benchmark (like BTC itself) to judge performance. Set aside tax obligations on gains.
['Enter the buy and sell prices.', 'Enter the amount traded and any fees.', 'Read profit, ROI, and breakeven.']
How crypto profit is calculated
Profit = (sell price − buy price) × amount − fees. Buying 0.5 BTC at $60,000 and selling at $70,000 nets $5,000 before fees. The calculator applies the fee rate so the realized number matches the exchange receipt.
Fees vary by venue
Exchange fees range from 0.1 percent at major spot exchanges to 2–4 percent at retail apps and credit-card purchases. A 0.1 percent fee on $35,000 of trades is $35; a 3 percent fee is $1,050. The calculator's fee input makes venue choice part of the profit math.
Cost basis and taxes
Crypto sales are taxable events in most jurisdictions: profit is sale proceeds minus cost basis. Tracking basis across wallets and transfers is the hard part — the calculator shows the gain; your tax software needs the basis history.
A worked example
Buy 1 ETH at $3,000, sell at $3,600 with 0.25 percent fees: gross profit $600, fees $16.50, net $583.50 — about 19.4 percent return. The calculator runs the math on any amount and fee.
Volatility changes the plan
A 20 percent swing in a day is normal for crypto; the profit calculator is a snapshot, not a forecast. Position sizing and dollar-cost averaging matter more than entry timing — the DCA calculator pairs with this one for the strategy layer.
How this calculator works
Formula
Profit = (sell price − buy price) × amount − buy fees − sell fees. ROI = profit ÷ (buy price × amount + buy fee) × 100.
Worked example
0.5 BTC bought at $60,000 and sold at $70,000: profit = 0.5 × $10,000 = $5,000 (before fees).
Assumptions to verify
- Simple spot trades with no leverage.
- Fees are entered explicitly.
- No staking, airdrops, or other income is modeled.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate crypto profit?
Profit = (sell − buy) × amount − fees. 0.5 BTC from $60k to $70k = $5,000 before fees.
Does this work for any coin?
Yes — enter any coin's buy/sell prices and amount; the math is the same.
Are fees included?
Enter them — the tool subtracts buy and sell fees from profit.
What is ROI?
Profit ÷ what you put in × 100 — the comparable return across trades of any size.
Do I owe taxes on crypto gains?
In most jurisdictions, yes — often as capital gains. Check local rules; the tool doesn't model taxes.
Why is my actual profit different?
Slippage and the bid-ask spread mean your real fill price differs from the quoted one.
What about staking rewards?
The tool models spot trades only — add staking income separately to total returns.
Do exchange fees matter?
Yes — 0.1% to 4% depending on venue; on large trades the difference is significant.
Is crypto taxable?
Generally yes — sales are taxable events; keep your cost-basis records.
Is this a forecast?
No — it calculates the profit on entered prices; it does not predict prices.
