## How it works

Fee = amount × percentage rate + fixed fee. Net = amount − fee. Gross-up amount solves for a target net after fees.

## Worked example

For a $100 payment with a 2.9% rate and $0.30 fixed fee, estimated fee is $3.20 and net proceeds are $96.80.

## Assumptions

- Rates vary by processor, country, card type, plan, dispute status, and currency conversion.
- Do not add surcharges unless they are allowed by your processor and local rules.
- Refund, chargeback, instant-payout, and international fees may be separate.

## Common questions

### How much does PayPal charge?

Using this calculator's editable PayPal preset, the fee is 3.49% of the payment plus $0.49. Actual PayPal pricing can vary, so enter the rate and fixed fee that apply to your transaction.

### How are Stripe fees calculated?

Using the editable Stripe preset, multiply the payment by 2.9%, then add $0.30. Subtract that fee from the payment to find the net amount received.

### How do I reverse-calculate a fee?

To receive a desired net amount, calculate the charge as (net + fixed fee) divided by (1 - rate/100). This gross-up accounts for both the percentage and fixed fee.
