## How it works

Pavers = ceiling(area / paver area) x (1 + waste); base aggregate (yd3) = area x base depth / 27; sand (yd3) = area x sand depth / 27.

## Worked example

A 20 x 12 ft patio with 8 x 4 inch pavers and 10% waste: 1,188 pavers, 2.96 cubic yards of base aggregate at 4 inches, plus 1 inch of bedding sand.

## Assumptions

- Paver dimensions are nominal face dimensions and joints are not separately modeled.
- Base and bedding depths are uncompacted planning inputs.
- Edging, joint sand, drainage, labor, and delivery are excluded.

## Common questions

### What is a paver calculator and how does it work?

A paver calculator is a browser-based tool that estimates the number of pavers and amount of base material you need for your project. You enter your area dimensions and paver size, and it instantly calculates the results right in your browser—no signup required.

### Do I need to create an account or sign up to use the paver calculator?

No. The paver calculator is completely free, no-signup, and runs entirely in your browser. Your measurements are never stored or shared.

### How accurate is the paver calculator for my project?

The paver calculator gives a reliable estimate based on your entered dimensions and paver size. For best results, measure your area carefully and add a 5–10% overage for cuts and waste.
