## How it works

Pace per unit distance = total time ÷ distance. Speed = distance ÷ time. This calculator takes a distance and a time, computes the pace in minutes per km and per mile, and projects race times assuming a constant pace.

## Worked example

Running 5 km in 30 minutes gives a pace of 6:00 per kilometer (about 9:39 per mile) and a speed of 10 km/h. At that pace, a projected marathon time is about 4 hours 13 minutes.

## Assumptions

- Pace is assumed constant over the distance; real efforts vary with terrain and conditions.
- Distances use the standard values for each race distance.
- Time can be entered in hours, minutes, and seconds.
- This tool provides general estimates for planning and education only; it is not medical advice and not a substitute for a qualified healthcare professional.
- Always consult your doctor or another healthcare provider about your specific situation.

## Common questions

### How do I calculate my running pace?

Divide your total time by the distance. For 5 km in 30 minutes, that is 30 ÷ 5 = 6 minutes per km (about 9:39 per mile).

### What is a good running pace?

A good pace is highly individual and depends on fitness and distance. The calculator projects race times from your pace so you can compare against typical benchmarks for your age and experience.

### How do I convert pace to speed?

Speed is the inverse of pace: distance ÷ time. A 6:00 min/km pace is 10 km/h, or about 6.2 mph.

### How is a marathon finish time predicted?

Multiply your per-km pace by 42.195 km. At 6:00 min/km that gives about 4 hours 13 minutes. It assumes you maintain that exact pace.

### Does pace calculator work for walking or cycling?

Yes — enter any distance and time and it returns the pace and speed for that activity.
