## How it works

The calculator starts with the initial investment and models each month as: estimated dividend = current value × annual dividend yield ÷ 12; estimated ending value = current value × (1 + (annual yield + annual price growth) ÷ 12) + monthly contribution. It repeats this for years × 12 months.

## Worked example

$10,000 initial plus $200/month, 3% yield, 5% dividend growth, 20 years: about $167,072 ending value from $58,000 contributed, with $40,902 of reinvested dividends.

## Assumptions

- Dividend yield and price growth are constant for every modeled month.
- Dividends are reinvested immediately in the same portfolio model.
- Taxes, fund expenses, trading costs, changing dividend policies, and market volatility are not modeled.

## Common questions

### Does this predict my investment return?

No. It is a deterministic planning model using the yield, growth, contribution, and time assumptions you enter. Real returns and dividends can move up or down.

### What does ‘dividends reinvested’ mean here?

The calculator estimates dividends each month from the current modeled value and adds their effect into the compounding model rather than treating them as cash withdrawn.

### Why can the ending value change so much when I change the years?

Compounding has more periods to act over longer horizons. The model applies the same monthly assumptions once per month for the full number of years entered.
