## How it works

Value in target currency = amount × (exchange rate of target currency ÷ exchange rate of base currency). Live mid-market reference rates come from the European Central Bank via the keyless Frankfurter API; when the live request is unavailable the calculator falls back to a set of indicative offline rates clearly labeled as such.

## Worked example

Converting $1,000 USD to EUR at a live ECB mid-market rate of 0.8645 gives 1,000 × 0.8645 = €864.50. The inverse rate shows 1 EUR = 1.1568 USD. Banks, cards, and transfer services typically add a spread and fees on top of the mid-market rate.

## Assumptions

- Live rates are European Central Bank reference (mid-market) data and update once per ECB business day.
- The inverse rate is the mathematical reciprocal of the quoted rate, not a separately quoted rate.
- Your actual conversion cost will differ: providers add spreads, commissions, and transfer or card fees.
- When the live rate request cannot be reached, the calculator uses clearly-labeled offline indicative rates.
- Amounts and currency selections stay in your browser and are never transmitted to us.

### How do I convert USD to EUR?

Enter the amount, choose USD as the From currency and EUR as the To currency, and press Calculate. The result shows the converted value at the current ECB mid-market reference rate, plus the inverse rate (1 EUR in USD).

### Why do rates differ between providers?

The mid-market rate is a baseline; banks and transfer services add a spread and fees to make money. Different providers apply different spreads and fee structures, so the rate you actually get varies even on the same day.
